Infront Consolidated Market Data

In recent years, trading has become more fragmented than ever – due, in large part, to new Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) legislation in the European Union.  Infront helps professional investors to overcome this fragmentation by collecting market data from across multiple trading venues and presenting it in a single consolidated view.

Currently available for Nordic securities, Infront provides a consolidated view of key data from across multiple trading venues, allowing investors to gain a better overview of all activity related to a given instrument.  Consolidated Markets include all instruments traded in the same currency as the original market.

Consolidated Markets include the following data:

  • Orders
  • Trades
  • Volume
  • Turnover
  • VWAP
  • Broker statistics

As shown in the examples below, this consolidated data is displayed in several different views within the Infront terminal.

MSCI Indices in Infront

Infront provides more than 14.000 indices from MSCI on a daily basis, with access to historical data back to 1980.

MSCI Index Types

The MSCI Price Indices measure only the price performance of markets. Dividends are not considered in price indices. Each index measures the sum of the free float-weighted market capitalization price returns of all its constituents on a given day.

The MSCI Total Return Indices measure the market performance, including both price performance and income from dividend payments.

The MSCI Daily Total Return (DTR) Methodology reinvests dividends in the indices on the day the security is quoted ex-dividend (xd-date).

Available MSCI Total Return Indices

The following MSCI Total Return Indices are calculated:

  • With Gross Dividends: This series approximates the maximum possible dividend reinvestment. The amount reinvested is the entire dividend distributed to individuals resident in the country of the company, but does not include tax credits.
  • With Net Dividends: This series approximates the minimum possible dividend reinvestment. The dividend is reinvested after deduction of withholding tax, applying the rate to non-resident individuals who do not benefit from double taxation treaties. MSCI uses withholding tax rates applicable to Luxembourg holding companies, as Luxembourg applies the highest rates.

Other MSCI Index Types Available

  • MSCI Systematic indices: Definitions of alpha are evolving as investors recognize that strategy indices can capture various systematic risk premia (alternative beta) such as value, size, low volatility or momentum. Systematic factors are increasingly considered key drivers of long-term performance.
  • ESG & SRI Indices: The practice of integrating ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) controversies into the investment process is evolving across Europe. MSCI ESG Indices are the continuation of the indices developed over the past 21 years by KLD and offer Transparent, rules-based methodologies. MSCI ESG research ensures the quality and content, hence MSCI does not source ESG research from third-party research firms or asset managers.
  • Thematic Indices: Commodity Producers, Agriculture and Food Chain are samples of many interesting investment themes which are covered by this bundle.

Which installer should I choose: .exe or .msi?

The two installers are equivalent and both are based on Microsoft Installer technology.

For normal, interactive installations, we recommend the .exe installer, as it looks better and checks that you have the correct MSI version installed.

For automatic installs that will be rolled out through a company’s network, we recommend using the .msi installer.

NASDAQ TotalView Explained

NASDAQ TotalView – which displays the full order depth for NASDAQ market participants – is recognized as the standard NASDAQ feed for serious traders. In this Q&A session, Infront Head of Business Development, Joachim Rosli, provides his take on how investors can benefit from the access to the liquidity that this market data feed offers.

Which NASDAQ TotalView feeds does Infront provide to its customers?

Nordic Equity TotalView displays the full order book for companies listed on NASDAQ OMX exchanges in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Oslo and Iceland. Unlike other vendors, Infront sources the data from the INET trading platform directly and not the information vendor feed. By doing this, we are able to provide better speed and quality on the data from the exchange.

Running a NASDAQ OMX TotalView Direct feed is more costly for Infront, but in return it provides a much better experience and more reliable data to our users.

What distinguishes TotalView from other types of market data feeds?

Instead of showing only viewing a few levels– which can be very misleading due to small tick sizes – TotalView provides access to the full depth of all orders in the market

What type of users typically benefit most from TotalView?

More active users including sell side firms, institutional customers and active day traders will benefit the most from this data feed.

To what degree can Infront customers benefit from having access to TotalView?

Apart from being able to view thier own orders in the queue, Infront customers benefit directly by viewing each level – either expanded or aggregated, which gives them the same depth of information as is shown in internal broker systems.

How does Infront add value to TotalView data?

Infront data will be up-and-running as long as the trading system is open: In comparison to other vendors who take the data from the exchange information feed, Infront sources the data directly. We add a ton of business logic on top, such as viewing Broker IDs in the orderbook, providing the best dislay in the auctions (opening and closing session) and showing a full break-down of trades.

The Infront terminal displays the data in multiple views, and has recently been enhanced with a “Market by Order” display, which provides unlimited depth details showing the size and price of all orders.

How can customers trial or subscribe to NASDAQ TotalView?

They can contact Infront Customer Support or go to My Profile in the Infront terminal to add it as trial or a subscription. Infront offers a 14 days trial on TotalView to all customers.

Infront Market Calendar Explained

A brand new Market Calendar was introduced with Infront 5.0. In this Q&A session with Infront Product Manager Andreas Sandvold, you´ll learn how you can best use the Market Calendar to get a complete overview of corporate actions and macroeconomic events for the markets you follow.

What type of user will benefit most from the new Market Calendar?

The Market Calendar gives the user a great overview of all corporate and macroeconomic events, so anyone who is interested in following recent and upcoming events will benefit from this new feature. If a user missed an event from the day before, he can even go back and check on what the actual impact of, for example a macroeconomic event, was on the market.

What data does the Infront Market Calendar display? Which countries does it cover?

By default, all users will get access to corporate events such as: announcements, corporate actions, IPOs and dividends. Access to macroeconomic events and quarterly results is available through an additional subscription to DowJones Calendar Live. If you subscribe to Direkt Premium with flashes, you will also have access to Direkt Calendar data.

The calendar provides global coverage.

Market Calendar in the Infront terminal.

What options do Infront users have for filtering the data displayed in the Calendar?

The Market Calendar provides users with a great deal of flexibility to easily create multiple calendar windows and filter calendar data on parameters such as geographical area, event category and date range.

Market Calendar filtering in the Infront terminal

What type of calendar-related notifications can Infront users configure?

All events scheduled for a given time are available for countdown alerts, which users can configure to get notified ahead of important events, and view a countdown timer until the event occurs. This allows users to prepare and react more quickly to calendar events.

How can current Infront subscribers get access to the new Market Calendar?

The Market Calendar feature is available in Infront 5.0, so users currently running previous versions need to upgrade in order to access it. Once upgraded, Infront 5.0 users can easily get access to the macro and quarterly results data by clicking “My Profile” in the top right-hand side of the terminal screen and selecting “DJ Calendar Live” to either purchase or get a free trial of the data. Nordic users will get access to “Direkt Calendar” by selecting “Direkt Premium with flashes” – both purchase and trial options are available for this feed as well.

Market Data Depth Explained

Market data depth available depends on several aspects including availability from the exchange, technical delivery of the data and the amount of data. This article provides an explanation of the different market data levels available from Infront.

Market By Level (MBL)

Market By Level data displays orders accumulated on price.

Level 1

Level 1 data includes only the first level in the orderbook with the best Bid and Ask and accumulated volumes displayed as Bid Size and Ask Size. Depeding on the exchange the number of orders might also be available displayed for each side as #Orders in the Infront terminal. Level 1 data is accumulated on Price.

Market by Level, Level 1 in the Infront terminal

Level 2

Level 2 data displays more levels of orders available in the market accumulated on price. Depending on the exchange the level of depth can be 5, 10 or 20 levels. Example of Level 2 data with 10 levels:

Market by Level, Level 2 in the Infront terminal

Market By Order (MBO)

Market By Order data displays all orders available sorted on price. Example:

Market by Order in the Infront terminal

Combined View MBL/MBO

With Infront you can take advantage of the Combined View of Market by Order and Market by Level Orderbook. Each level can be expanded and display all underlying orders. Example:

Translation Guide: The Infront Terminal

While the Infront terminal is delivered in English by default, it is possible to translate the user interface into any other language supported by Microsoft Windows.  This guide explains how to do it.

Getting Started

The Infront terminal is delivered in English by default. It can however be translated in to any other language as long as this is supported by Microsoft Windows. A file containing approximately 3000 words and phrases must be translated. Estimated time usage is 3 effective working days including testing. It is very important that the person that does the translation have a good knowledge about the financial equity markets and order entry.

Required Software

In order to translate, the translator must install a program called poEdit (or similar text editor program) and translate a file called default.po.

Translating the Infront terminal UI: Step-by-Step

The following procedure must be followed in order to translate the Infront terminal UI:

Step 1: Install the Infront terminal

Make sure that the Infront terminal is installed on the PC where the translation work will be done.

Step 2: Install PoEdit

Install the software poEdit [Download]

Step 3: Create folder

Create a folder under the Infront program folder (\program files\ontrade\) called locale\LA\LC_MESSAGES where “LA” is the code for the language. Example: for the Infront terminal translated to Italian the following catalog should be created:

\program files\ontrade\locale\it\LC_MESSAGES\

Step 4: Download the default.po file

Request the translation file (default.po) from us, and place it in the \LC_MESSAGES\ folder

Step 5: Start the Infront terminal

Start the Infront terminal, go to Tools|Setup and User Interface Options and Select the Language tab. The new language name should appear. Stop the Infront terminal.

Step 6: Edit text in PoEdit

Start translating the file default.po by opening this in poEdit program (select Open and browse to the folder under Step 3). In order to check your translation, the Infront terminal can be started after you have translated some phrases and words.

Important

  • The Infront terminal can not be running when saving the default.po file. Your translation will take effect the next time you start the Infront terminal.
  • When translating, it is very important to keep all so-called “format strings” intact. Format strings are small placeholders, like %s for a string or %d for an integer numeric value. These are replaced with the actual dynamic string or value at run-time. If these placeholders are removed or otherwise invalidated, these strings will generate errors when the application tries to use them.

For More Information

For more information and guidance on translating the Infront terminal UI, contact Infront Customer Support.

Integrating News and Research from RSS (XML) Feeds

The Infront terminal can display news from RSS/XML feeds, allowing you to share important news and updates with end users.  This article provides guidelines on how to handle the integration.

RSS
The Infront terminal can display news, research and other important sources from RSS/XML files. To make a news feed available, the format should follow the format described in the following link:

www.goinfront.com/newsexample/news-example.xml

The basics

  • RSS 1.0 or RSS 2.0 is recommended, however any XML format is supported.
  • Each news item must contain at least: timestamp (date + time), title and URL.
  • Infront supports text in lieu of URL, industries, categories and topic.
  • Find out more about XML from w3.org

Mapping of news to symbols

A news story can be mapped to a symbol using the ISIN or ticker plus the exchange identifier (if applicable).  When linking a news story to a ticker code, be sure to use the same symbol as listed by the exchange.  Infront automatically matches the exchange ticker to the underlying feed.

Location of XML file

The XML file containing the news must be put in a place on the Internet available to Infront, specified through a URL. Once initial setup is complete, the URL must not change, as this is a one-time configuration in our system.

Verifying your XML file

An easy way to verify that an XML file is valid is by opening it in Internet Explorer. For example, opening the following file in Internet Explorer should cause it to complain about invalid XML format: www.goinfront.com/newsexample/illegal-news-example.xml

Need help integrating news with XML/RSS?  Contact Infront Support

What validation functionality is included in Infront Connect?

Infront Connect includes functionality to assist in risk management for both retail and institutional DMA:

For retail DMA a portfolio margin calculation and account risk monitoring functionality is supported. It uses the Infront real-time market data infrastructure for performing portfolio margin calculation which results in a trading power value used for order validation. The account risk monitoring functionality uses the trading power value to alert portfolios that has been exceeded.

For institutional DMA a net value validation for setting limits for buy-side traders is supported.

The Infront terminal has settings for soft order limits to avoid fat finger trading.
